Structure of the Region X Health Equity Council

The Region X Health Equity Council (RHEC X) aims to end health disparities in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. RHEC X maintains a diverse membership representing several sectors such as state government, higher education, health care delivery, community non-profits, and private foundations. The diversity on RHEC X ensures adequate input from diverse sectors in the council’s efforts to understand and address health disparities in the region. The council has 35 voting seats.

The council’s activities are coordinated by two Co-Chairs, and directed by workgroups, each led by one workgroup lead. Workgroups are focused on: Workforce development, specifically increasing awareness of health disparities/health equity among young people through training and outreach, and increasing the number of students of color admitted to and graduating from schools of nursing; Increasing awareness of health equity issues and the NPA among healthcare executives through the American College of Health Care Executives chapter meetings; Analyzing programs, policies and resources around health equity; and communicating ACA information and requirements in relation to immigrant status.

Ongoing Activities and Accomplishments:
  • Develop a Regional Blueprint for Action to guide the councils work
  • Conduct an environmental scan to collect regional-level data on health disparities and the social determinants of health
  • Partner with the Washington Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives to conduct a webinar on community health needs assessments
